Why are we doing this blogging thing?

I am Dr. Keri Petersen, Assistant Professor of History at JCSU and coordinator of the History Program. This is my 10th year as a college professor (3 at JCSU) and I specialize in teaching American, African American, and Atlantic World History. I am currently working on a book manuscript, Industrial Slavery and the Economic Development of North Carolina. I am a native of Charlotte, though I have not lived in the city in quite some time. I currently live in Greensboro with my husband, Doug, and our 6 year-old daughter, MG. I am also a proud cat mom of 2 cats, Sassy & Tony. When I am not learning and teaching history, I love to visit museums, historic sites and places, and generally explore the local landscape. I sew, swim, hike, and ride a bike.
